How to Find the Right Kitchen Flooring

If it's time for you to get a new kitchen flooring, I'm pretty sure that you are a bit overwhelmed with all of the choices at your disposal. Luckily for you, I have some helpful guidelines that you can follow when choosing the best kitchen flooring.

Kitchen Flooring: Things to Consider

The style of your kitchen is a major factor to consider when choosing the kind of kitchen flooring that will suit you best. Let's take for example a house that has a Colonial style. I would definitely choose a hardwood floor before installing a tiled kitchen floor. I think that a hardwood floor  would look much better than a tiled floor would.

The next thing to consider is the role that your kitchen plays within your home. Is your kitchen a place where your family gathers and spends a lot of their time, or is it simply a practical place that you only use for cooking? For me, there's no doubt that the amount of use that your kitchen gets has a big impact on the kind of kitchen flooring you should choose.

For example, it would be fine to select a hardwood floor if your kitchen is not used very often.  However, I would not recommend to get hardwood kitchen flooring if your kitchen is the heart of your home and has a high volume of traffic. Same thing if you do lots of cooking. The last thing you want is to spill things on a hardwood flooring and have people scuffed it with their shoes. Also, if the kitchen is the place where your pets hang out, there's a good chance that they will mark the floor with their nails.

This will sound pretty obvious and even though I know it is rarely done anyway, it is important to note that carpeted floors in a kitchen are REALLY not a good idea. As you know, spills will happen in a kitchen at any given time and they can lead to mildew and mold within the carpets if you don't clean the spills in time.

In my opinion tile flooring is your best choice if you have a kitchen that is used very often. One word of caution however: if you decide to go for tile, DON'T choose white tile flooring unless you absolutely have to. Even though white tiles will make your kitchen appear larger, it is also a real magnet for spills. More importantly, you would have to wash or weep the floor all the time because scuff marks from chairs and people's shoes easily show up on white tile floors.

In conclusion, when it comes to choosing the best kitchen flooring, you need to consider two things: the overall look and style of your kitchen and the type of floor that would best match the colors. Another thing to consider to protect your floor is the amount of use your kitchen gets. It is simply a matter of proper research.
